Help on binding
 

I am making this as a placemat and I am not sure how to apply the binding. Do I just do a regular and try to get the corners to miter the best I can or is their a better way?

There is a site that shows how to bind odd angles. I believe it's ...ankastreasures.wordpress.com. I do the binding just like I would for a bigger project with odd angles. Hope this helps.

It might be easier without binding. Put your batting on the bottom, next layer would be the backing - right side up, and next your top - good side down. Sew outside edges, leave an opening, and turn right side out. No binding required. Iron out, and top stitch however you wish, and then the outside edge. Just a suggestion.

Look for 'binding with a machine' and you might find helpful sites. I am in the middle of binding a set of placemats, and used the Missouri Star Quilting tutorial, and it's working great. To miter, I just fold it as I get to the corner. The sites suggest sewing it to the back first then flipping to the front to sew down, but I'm doing it the same way I do a quilt (sewing to the front first), just because I like the results better. If putting on binding yes I would do the mitered corners it would look really nice

Thanks for all your suggestions. The tutorial was great. It was just what I was looking for.

I did my odd angle table runners the same way as regular angles. Stitch to 1/4 inch of end, take out of machine, fold binding up and then down even at the next edge, start stitching 1/4 inch down. I got nice mitered corners.
