I just finished washing a newly completed quilt that I'd marked using a Quilt Pounce with their wash-out blue chalk -- except that some of the blue lines did NOT wash out! I won't put it in the dryer (worried it would set the stain). I had washed it with cold water, gentle cycle, regular detergent (Kirkland Environmentally Friendly laundry detergent), and had even sprayed the marked areas with Spray N Wash. BTW it had not been ironed before laundering.

This is a graduation gift (already a little late) and I obviously want it to be perfect (well, except for my flawed quilting). What to do next?

I've heard that dry cleaning can take out marks that don't wash out.

Maybe try washing again without detergent, I have heard sometimes detergent sets marks as well, hopefully someone on the board with more experience with this project can help

i know you said it's a washable pounce pad- what do the instructions say?
my pounce powder has to be removed with warm water - at least 105 degrees
i hope you haven't set it with your cold water.

detergent is said to set some marking items.

Maybe take a soft toothbrush and some Dawn liquid dish soap that has been diluted with water and gently brush the marks. Then rinse with clear water and see what happens.

Could try soaking in oxyclean for 15 min and see if it goes away.

It is definitely not the iron-off type. The instructions don't say anything about the type of laundering to remove it (i.e., water temp, with or without detergent) and the website doesn't say anything about it either, except that it is "wash-away."

Perhaps the manufacturer will give some advice...before I make it worse.

I've also seen other threads here. One I remember said vinegar helps. I bet if you do a couple searches here you will find some more help.

UPDATE: I emailed the manufacturer and heard back yesterday. She suggested I dab the areas with a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. I used a soft toothbrush to apply it. While wetting the quilt with the liquid it wasn't apparent that it was working (perhaps because the chalk had seeped into the batting) but when it was dry the blue was no longer visible. YAY!

Today I'll try to take a picture and post it.

Thanks for all you suggestiong...gotta get some of that Dawn dish detergent because it seems to have magic properties (even though they were not needed this time).
