I don't know if I need a border or not and if I do what to use for the border....

I would definitely put a border on it. I would audition all the colors in the quilt, but probably use brown or pink. Use a tone on tone, something that reads solid, not a printed border. Maybe even two borders. A thin, about 2" inner border and then about 4½" outer border.

Agree with Kathy. Possibly even a thin blue border to pull out the blue circles, thena wider brown border.

Oh that is a good idea - I didn't think about the blue...I needed that green and it was the only one I could find that I liked so I went with it even though it didn't really match!

A border or set of borders would make this quilt really Pop.

What a wonderful 'opportunity.' You can take it to your LQS and audition all sorts of fabrics, colors, and designs.

Wahoo!

I would definitely use a border - would consider using the browns. Ok, so now I've added another opinion. Sorry. Guess the best thing to do is go with what please you the mot:)

franie 03-23-2011 06:24 PM

Yes a border would finish the quilt out.

earthwalker 03-23-2011 06:29 PM

Yep...definitely needs a border....I would probably do brown or blue.

susie-susie-susie 03-23-2011 06:34 PM

My first thought was a brown border. Maybe a tone on tone. I also like the idea of using the blue, perhaps a thin border and then a wider one in brown. That is a very pretty quilt.

I would go with a thin solid inner border and a bigger outer border, possibly pieced from all the prints in the quilt, continuing the design outward.

Ok - here is what I have in the house - otherwise I have to go buy something...I cannot believe I don't have any blue material - well I have one piece but it won't work - the color is too dark.

pink/white/brown leopard print & pink/white/grey paisley

brown BC material that is in the quilt

white with blue/green/pink/yellow swirls & then brown with pink flowers

The brown border seems to go the best of what you have shown, because it goes with what is in the quilt. Maybe even a solid color, so as not to distract from your quilt. But definitely yes on border. Great work!

I really love that pink/white/grey paisley but not so much with your quilt. The brown is perfect! Maybe another border with a solid and then the brown again as binding? Because I love hot pink that is what I would use for the back! I really like those daisies too.... so many choices!

IrelandDragonQuilting 03-23-2011 08:12 PM

I like the brown matching border. :)

JackieG 03-23-2011 08:15 PM

I'm thinking a white solid or tone on tone white - or polka dots to pick up the cool aqua, since there is so little of that color. It's very pretty.

Janquiltz 03-23-2011 10:40 PM

If you are having to go with what's on hand - for sure the brown as the outer border, and if you had a white or tone-on-tone white could make a narrow inner border. The swirls pattern fabric would make a nice backing.

I was thinking of the swirls (blue) for the back with yellow for the border....what is funny is I bought that material and 4 other coordinating materials for a quilt and I've ended up using each piece in something else and none of it together!

My only problem is I have not done any FMQ on large pieces and I'm afriad to try and quilt that one piece - maybe I'll cut it into 4 like the front and use the yellow to outline it....

I think it needs a border. I like the brown that you already have or the pink paisley.

quilticing 03-24-2011 03:49 AM

I made the same pattern and didn't put a border on it. I wanted it to go on and on visually. A border makes it end.

Carrie Jo 03-24-2011 04:41 AM

yes, border.

KathyAire 03-24-2011 06:17 AM

I love all the fabric that you showed, but not for this quilt. The borders really need to read solid. The borders will frame the quilt and you will be amazed at how much more attractive it will be. It's already great, but borders will be like a miracle.

nycquilter 03-24-2011 08:34 AM

nothing to add, except--what dirty tile? I only saw a lovely quilt

Dani 03-24-2011 11:42 AM

I like the matching brown for border and the pink/brown/white animal print for the back.
