Help with border

1 Attachment(s)
I am making a quilt for my son who is an avid Notre Dame fan. I appliqued the Notre Dame logo in the middle. Their logo is blue and gold but their nickname is the fighting irish so I used shamrocks and green fabric for the body of the quilt. Now I am trying to decide on the border. Should I make it a small border of gold and a wider body of blue (to match logo in the middle) or should I just go with the shamrock and green fabric.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

how about green, white then blue?

Cute top! I would do a border of the shamrock and then the green. I would save the blue for the back and binding.

I would do a blue border, then bind with white.

Boy, this is a difficult decision. It just doesn't look like either the blue or the yellow work well with the quilt because those colors are only in the small initials. I would never used white as the binding because the binding gets the most wear on a quilt. Good Luck. He will love it no matter what you use for the border.

I like the idea of the narrow gold then wide blue since that is the school colors. I'd definitely lay it out and look at it for a bit before sewing them on.

You need a solid Navy blue border. The blue that you have laid out has too much royal blue in it. The yellow that you have laid out is the wrong shade. You need a deeper gold. The proper shade of gold sometimes doesn't play well with the kelly green, unless the kelly green has been shaded. That is why there is usually a bit of white between the green and gold in all of their logos.

If you want two borders then try shamrock then blue. Still use the gold for the binding. It's just an accent on the letters, just like a binding is. If you cannot find the right shade of gold, then scrap it. Use either navy blue or kelly green for the binding.

It is going to be a really nice gift. He will love it.

I would not introduce a color that isn't already in the quilt (the yellow doesn't work imho). You can use ANY color or pattern that is already in the quilt, white, light-green, darker green, the blue from the logo.

Options:
Dark green inner border and a white outer border
Dark green inner border and shamrock outer border
Green inner border and navy outer border (same color blue as the logo)
Shamrock inner border and navy outer border (same color blue as the logo)

That blue seems a bit strong to me, it you use it in the border, it maybe should be narrow
