Hey from NW Arkansas. I've been reading and looking at your posts for about a month now. - been quilting for about 30 years. I presently only do baby quilts that I donate. But I want something to do handwork on, thus the Catherdral Window. Now my brain does not compute (even with my calculator) so here is my problem. I bought a whole bolt of good quality muslin and want to wash it before cutting. I want the finished size to be 100" square, each window finished to 2". The muslin will be cut into 8 1/2 squares, after washing. I realize that is a big undertaking. But I can't figure how to cut the muslin into workable sizes before washing it. I'd like it to be no more than 2 yard lengths. Am I making any sense? Help!!! Libbiebean

My best solution would be to measure with a yardstick (mine is on the wall in sewing room) two yard lengths, nip with scissors, then rip. 2 yards is a nice manageable size to work with. I would zig zag the edges before washing just to avoid all the string tangles. Good luck on the quilt. Please post as you go we would all love to see your progress.
(I got my yardstick at Walmart for $3 )

If it takes a 8.5 x 8.5 inch square to make a 2x2 inch finished *window* if that is what you said... then a yard would make approximately 20 of those 2x2 inch windows. About two yards to make one square foot of windows.

100x100 is just over 8x8 feet... 64 square feet ... that would be 64 x 2 yards?
I.E. *Just how big is your bolt of muslin ..... or how many bolts do you have ?
