Help choosing a Star Block

I will be making 2 QoV, 1 will be going to my Uncle who served in Vietnam and the other will be going to my son who served in Afghanistan and still has plenty of time to serve to possibly be sent there again or elsewhere.

My theme for the quilts are going to be Stars and Stripes, all the blocks will be either a stripe block or a star block, my question is what is one of the easier star blocks to build? I've looked at quite a few but they all seem to be blending in together at this point.

Check quilterscache.com they have plenty of stars to choose from and I think it says if they are easy or not.

Lucky Stars, by Atkinson Designs is a great star pattern. The background extends beyond the star points so there is very little matching. Here is one of mine...there are several in my photo gallery on my profile.

I've used this star pattern also. Really a blessing because you don't have to worry about cutting off the points like happens if you use a "flying geese" type star points.

Viginia star or 8 pointed star

the friend ship star is by far the easiest and I think very pretty and fitting for a patriotic quilt.

Years ago, I made an Independence Quilt from quilterscache.com - it has stars, plus other blocks. It makes a great QoV!

This is a great pattern. No point worries. http://thesillyboodilly.blogspot.com...-tutorial.html

I liked the star, and in fact the whole layout of the "Just one Star" project that Moda did. Scroll down for the star block instructions. They went together really nice.

I'm in the "planning stages" of a QoV for my DGS and came across this one on Pinterest. (no pattern - just photo) It looks easy enough. You could use the Simple Star from quilters cache and strip piecing.

This makes a very large block but if you use 5" sqs. instead of 10", it would be very nice and relatively easy. I have made it the way she shows in the video and just made one to use as a topper but I want to try it scaled down.

Jenny Doan has this Youtube video making Big Block Star Blocks quilt. I ordered 3 layer cakes and some cream yardage to make this. Each star is 25". It's beautiful and so so easy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkm3nCferp4

You guys are GREAT!!! Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I had a negotiation meeting after work tonight and just walked in a little while ago. I really do try and get back to everyone as soon as possible...:)

Lois, that is exactly what I had planned, or at least very similiar. Now that I am sitting for a bit before bed I will check out everything everyone sent and actually pick one.

On a side note I found a LQS that carries the Grace Hand Quilting frame I will be buying in the next few days. I just need to give them a call tomorrow to see if they have it on hand or have to order it and what the price is. Once I have that info I will decide if I am ordering it from the company or just getting it through the LQS, I'm really excited about it..LOL

I love that (at the very end) she shows a quilt made using the 5" squares. Good one!!
