I was ask to make a king quilt with the main color Burgundy. What would be good colors to go with it. I need about 20 dark an 20 light. Never used burgundy before. Any idea would be great, :?:

I made one with burgundy, forest green, and a vanilla.

Pinks, taupes, creams, all work with burgundy. It will depend how feminine or gender neutral you want the outcome to be.

Here are a couple of sites that help with color:

http://www.quiltopia.com/colorwheel.html

IMHO you can use blues, greens, pinks, neutrals.

I think burgundy goes great with shades of pink, browns and tans.

SundarKoyal 07-05-2010 06:18 PM

I think different shades of burdandy along with browns, reds and certain greens... Think of woodsy colors. The kind of colors you would see in a cabin in the woods. You could off-set the darker colors with cream, or shades of tan.

I personally love either bold colors or more manly colors. I am not big on girly colors. I wish i was there to help you with the colors.

According to my Stampin Up color wheel Apricot, moss & artichoke play nicely together.

i'm a newbie, so take this with a grain of salt. i'm having difficulty with colors and recently found looking at the fat quarters helped me in pairing colors and prints.

I like golds and browns with burgandy.

raksmum 07-05-2010 07:00 PM

Burgandy and green is very sharp together

kwiltkrazy 07-05-2010 07:09 PM

I like burgundy with gold.

Burgundy, navy and forest green work beautifully together...one of my favorites for home decorating as well as clothing and quilts! Gold, cream, beige, warm tan make nice light accents.

Go to the paint chip section at WalMart or Home Depot and find the strips with graded shades of each color and that will help you if you are wanting to go from dark to light within a single color. And of course you can play around with the various colors to see which ones you like together, then take them to the fabric store and look for fabrics that are similar shades.

Good luck & have fun!

I love it with gold. A bit of green could be nice too. I have a hard time picking out colors too.

JoanneS 07-05-2010 07:57 PM

I'm working on a Karen Stone paper pieced with tans & golds as lights; burgundies, browns, & blacks as darks.

With forty colors, what pattern will you be making?? Did he pick the pattern? Have you ever seen his house to know his decorating taste. How old is he? I think all of these questions come into play for color choice. If he is the kind of guy that is all black laquer then you could use the oriental patterns that have shades of reds, burgundy and black but I would hate to go that dark unless it was something he would like. If he is high shine cherry, he is a burgundy, blue and green guy. If he is rustic, he is burgundy, browns, greens, creams and maybe gold ( not metallic of course). If he is sparse and plain builder white you are in trouble because he is really afraid of color. ha ha

I have burgundy, black and tan in my bedroom. They work well together-have a star wall hanging made out of those colors and really like it.

ckcowl 07-06-2010 04:44 AM
