You're making it much too complicated. I have made scrappy log cabins and used the same medium as a light in one block and as a dark in another. It works and adds interest to the quilt (IMHO). Another option for the mediums is to use them in a piano key border, where value doesn't matter.

thats what i was thinking of doing...
glad to know it will work

ok here is a different view of the florals for the log cabin quilt...

i did move the purple and teal from the medium batch to the dark batch and that does look better...

anyone else have any ideas as to any needing to be moved around?

and i was able to change the image to black and white...viewing it this way makes all the medium colors in the middle row look as if they were lights...

whatcha think?

You know, seeing the mid-range set, I don't think you should use any of those. Just use the light and dark. You have plenty of fabrics there already without adding in the mid-range set,.

I agree

Or, depending on what you like, don't use the light set and use the dark and medium sets. That would be my preference by far.

Good hint.

This is exactly what I do, the red doesn't seem to work for me, and taking a black and white picture is too many steps away to make a decision (for me). If not squinting then use low lights, it washes the color out. I see just a few glaring mispicks in your collections, but it's going to be beautiful with those florals!! Great idea.

You know I wrote this before I saw your reorganized photos, they were much better. Sorry! You're doing a great job of this. Wanted to add that I do also agree with those who suggest not using the mediums. OR you can use the them with either the lights or the darks (just don't use all three).

The B&W pic works great to see the tone of the material and I think you have it working well! This is going to be a beauty. You are still getting some contorversy over the medium tones. What are you going to do?
