I am making a Carpenter Star lap quilt. The center is 48" square and then I'm using a braided border. The picture I found online that is my model has solid blocks in the corners and it looks too plain. The braid is only as long as the sides. Is it going to look strange if continue the braid to the end on two longer sides? I can't miter it and I can't think of any easy block that would coordinate with the Carpenter Star and the braid. This is in orangy and rust batiks if that helps. I though of appliquing the corners, but I can't think of four appliques. This daughter is very 'girly', but she doesn't like hearts.

Thank you.

I think it will work just fine but you could make a little star for each corner and it woouldn't look so plain. Or a miniature compass. take a look.

Now the placement would be different and you have to applique it to the finished block size you would want. They really do add a finishing touch.

Appliqued flowers or a lacy/loopy celtic design, would be pretty appliques too :D:D:D

why not make a small star block for the corners?

What I would do is:
Draw out in scale the border designs. I assume the way you have pieced it, that it is one long strip going in one direction. I would draw the pattern up to the square in the corner. Then extend lines to see how you might fit the two pieces.

I think I'd use a plain solid block before I ran it to the ends. Then again I only do plain and piano key borders because I'm not that ambitious. lol

ube quilting, those are beautiful, but I'm new to this and they don't look easy.

gale, I have piano keys going on a Jewel Box. Those will be mitered, but I can see how to do that with the keys.

Holtice, looking at my picture, I think I can extend the braid to the ends if I extend the narrow dark first sashing, too. Then I'll need another band of the dark across the end before the last border goes on so that all the braid is enclosed. The last border is a peachy batik and I don't want it touching the braid in one spot and not another. This may be the best so the big star stays featured.

The nice thing about the piano keys is that any simple block matches. I used 4 patch blocks in the corners.
