help cousin getting married
my cousin (26) is getting married. don't know her color scheme.
what design do I do? what would you do not knowing what color scheme or weather to make it modern, traditional or what. I'm known as the 'creative goddess' to her family so I think they are expecting or hoping for a quilt. they have money, so I think instead of my measley $200, they would want a quilt. SOOO what would you do, colors and design. or should I outright ask??? |

I made a black, white and gray when I didnt know for a bride. she loved it.

Ask the family what her colors are. When I went to showers especially, kitchen and bath or bedroom, we always asked colors. Some want color versus, neutrals or black and white. My kids colors are so different from each other it isn't funny! From very light pastels, to bold and bright to black and red to Duck Dynasty Mossy Oak and whatever!

Grey, neutrals are quite popular right now. black and white, too. Or ask the family. Or check bridal registries.

Hi Lynnie,
Are there any family members you could ask about her tastes? I do think it best to try to find out what they would like before you go to the time and expense of making a quilt if possible. But if that isn't possible, my choice would be to make a modern, neutral quilt for a younger person her age. This is the one I made for my daughter when she got married last year and it seemed to work well for them. It is called Whispered Lace and in the book called Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis. It is easy and is my "to go" gift quilt pattern. |
You know, I would just ask. I told my cousin I was making her a quilt, and what colors would she like. She said blue and yellow, and make it cheerful. She was still surprised by the quilt and I felt comfortable that she would probably like what I created. She did. She loved it.
The same type thing could work for you... Dina |
I vote for just asking. People are hurt when someone does not appreciate or don't use the quilt, but then if you give them a quilt that is not to their liking they aren't likely to keep it or just put it in a closet.

I'd probably ask the bride and groom to be what they wanted in terms of color. If the quilt is for their bed, then find out what size bed, too. Then I'd get creative.

Beautiful quilt!

Very striking quilt. I can see why the bride loved it!
