Help with Dresden platce block with sunrise center

A while ago, someone posted a beautiful dresden plate block that had a sunrise center, it was similar to the one Jenny Doan from MSQ has a tutorial on. The difference was that it could just be sewn onto a backing without putting in a center circle fabric(the backing fabric would show through) because instead of the center being unfinished, it was completely finished. Thank you for your help.

Margie, I haven't done one, but couldn't you press under the center like you would for an applique? That would give you a finished edge with the backing showing through.

I posted the Dresden Dahlia block in Tutorial section if that is what you are looking for.

Maybe you are thinking of the Double Wide Dresden Ruler that is new? I saw it demo'd at Road. The plate was open and finished in the middle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJBunlOQ9bM

I have done this, just experimenting. You make the dresden plate, fold a small hem on the centre circle edge, also the outer edge, and just applique it onto the backing.

With the one I tried, I used a strip of thin iron-on interfacing on the edges before folding the 'hems' over, ensuring the curves were rounded nicely. Set it in place on the backing, and press - no pins needed.

I saw one , don't remember where. The blades were sewn on the bottom the same as the top before sewn together. Both end were pointed and finished

My first thought would be to sew a smallish circle of fusible interfacing, turn it to the inside and fuse to the backing. I think I would prefer this to just turning under the edge and ironing. It might make for a cleaner edge. This would also work if you wanted the inner edge to have a design to it - a slight scallop, perhaps a triangle (sunbeam look).
