Can someone who uses this machine for free motion please tell me what I'm doing wrong. See photos. The top side seems to be okay, but the back is off. The feed dogs are down, I have the FM foot on correctly, stitch 01 (straight stitch), size 2.5.

Try adjusting the tension

sandyo 09-19-2011 01:02 PM

you will have to adjust your tension higher I think and then move your fabric slower. It takes practice but will get better Just learn to coordinate your speed with the machine. Practice on a scrap piece for awhile

Try a new needle, my Brother always played up if the needle was a bit worn

try www.daystyledesigns-freequilting.com

She says she leaves the feed dog up but puts stitch to zero

Quilting Angel 09-19-2011 01:30 PM

Do you have your stitch length and width set to zero?

lisainmo 09-19-2011 02:32 PM

I would put stitch on zero and change the needle those are the first things I would try.

I changed from stitch 01 to stitch 00 and adjusted the tension way up and that helped a lot. I also watched the video at www.daystyledesign.com for beginning free motion. She's got some great ideas. Now I just have to practice, practice, practice before I try FMQ on any of the quilts I spents hours piecing.

Thanks y'all
