Help with French Rose pattern please

Ok, so my daughter has decided this is the quilt (French Rose) she wants me to make for the new baby - due Sept 4. I have never attempted this pattern - nor do I own the pattern. I am hoping to wing it without a pattern. My question is if you were making this for a baby quilt - what size blocks would you make. My initial thought was 8 inches - but the flower would be awfully small then - I wanted to do a 4 layer flower. If you have made this - or just have a good suggestion - could you help me out. I want to start tomorrow. I have fabric - just need direction.

When I need a visual I do a trial block with scraps to see what size works best. I have a wall of trial blocks I want to make into a quilt one day. :)

I think you need french rose buds pattern. See this blog for suggestions. I have made both patterns and the French Rose Buds works best for babies.
