Depending on the size, I would look at examples of quilt patterns using panels:

There is a book "Big Print Patchwork" by Sandy Turner that has some fabulous ideas for incorporating large prints into a quilt. On Amazon, you can actually see some of the ideas. I have a couple of large print fabrics that I'm really anxious to try with these methods.

Here's a free panel type pattern from Hoffman's site. Colors might work well and just replace the big blocks with the horse fabric?

Just get on Pinterest and pull up panel quilts and you can get a ton of ideas! BTW beautiful fabric and will make a great quilt whatever pattern you choose!

I would suggest a couple of books.
Panel Play by Barbara Becker or Clever Quilts Making the most of Panels, Borders and theme prints by Susan Teegarden Dissmore |
Also check eQuilter (eQuilter.com/pattern), she has been doing a lot of free patterns for panels.

How about Attic Windows?

couple of Christmases ago I had a wonderful horse panel--4 pictures total that I made into a lap quilt/wall hanging for my daughter by cutting pictures apart and then using Marti Michell's rulers that allow you to make a wide sashing with star cornerstones, plus a couple of borders. I turned out really well and I quilted it like the pictures where an applique and it really highlighted the pictures.
Love yours! |
If you can't decide I will 'take the bullet' and buy it from you! haha! I LOVE IT!

I have a similar kit, which cuts the horse prints in horizontal panels, and then appliques fence posts and rails across it. It is beautiful, and shows off the western fabrics.
