Put them right sides together, draw a line down the center and sew 1/4" on each side of the center line. I always try to make them that way. Feel I get a more accurate HST.

Jan can you help me figure out the size squares I need to cut to end up with a 3" square, using the method of sewing 1/4" around the edge and then cutting diagonally both ways and end up with 4 squares made at the same time. Thanks

I'm with mollymunchkin. the magic 8 is the only method I use. I think i found the directions on youtube.

I have found the best way to make HST is with the Easy Angle ruler. Just add 1/2" to the finished size of the HST you want to make and cut two strips of the fabric you want. Place them right sides together and cut your triangles. They are already together and ready to sew. Mine come out much more accurate then messing with the 7/8" stuff!!

Have any of you ladies watched Jennie Doan do her thing where she puts the squares together and sews all for side and then cuts on the diagonal? Is she making the same thing that Jan is? I love Jan and her easy to understand and right on the money explanations. But I also love Jennie's sew around the square. Please explain the differnce with the end result to me.
