I need suggestions. My DH loves the double wedding ring pattern. I would love to make him a quilt for Christmas but am stuck on the fabrics. What colors would you suggest. DH doesn't have a favorite color. I would like it to be manly but not too much so. What do you think?

How about blues and browns or maybe plaids?
I used prints in blues and browns for a star sampler that I am making for my DH and he loves it. The prints have some flowers on them as well as some being just tonal prints, but the overall look isn't feminine at all. Also, someone on here was making a quilt w/just plaid fabrics and I thought that it looked great for a guy quilt. |
You could use geometrics and swirls, etc. Stay away from the florals and you will have a "manly" quilt. Maybe use browns, blues, greens, reds, those are all manly colors the men in my life like. :D

I think anything not floral or pink and purple would be great!

solids and plaids

All great ideas so far. I have another- burgundy. My husband loves that color.

OoH pretty!
I have some batik browns and greens that would make that so pretty! thanks for the idea! |
Batiks were what I had in mind for this too

Really?? I was kind of surprised at the comment about florals not being manly. I went back and checked a few of the posts about quilts men on this board have made for themselves and as gifts for other men and some have a few floral fabrics in the quilts. Just my opinion, but really??

I think Civil War repros are awesome for mens quilts! They are just the right colors, but they can be enjoyed by anyone!

Anytime I get stuck on color and wanting help with combinations, I just start searching online and get ideas from other's projects. I've seen color combinations I never would have chosen that are perfect! There is a never ending supply of ideas out there, just go looking! PS....this board is the best place to start! Do a search on double wedding ring and you'll have a lot of results showing the very talented work of this board's members.

first thought of mine is use batiks in golds rusts and sagey minty greens. you could also take him to the fabric store and tell him to help you pick out some fabric for a lap quilt. this will give you an idea of the colors he is "pulled" towards. that would help you know what colors and textures to use.

Is it supposed to be a surprise? Maybe he could help with picking out the fabrics?

If you go to Kaye Woods site & click on TV shows, she has a video that shows How to do a Double Wedding Ring without all the small pieces being put together for the rings & also shows how to quilt it as you go & once the blocks are together it is complete front & back. It is awesome how it is done & goes together really fast.
