Help! I can't figure this out!
Ok, so I am making this quilt top and my finished units once squared are 6 inches. I want to make a queen sized quilt which from what I have read should measure at least 90 by 106? I need to know how many finished units I need to make, my seam is a quarter inch which would make each finished unit 5 and a half inches right? How many blocks will I need, I figured this and it was over 300, that can't be right can it! YIKES! I am not a match person for sure but I know some of you are!
Thanks in advance! Gwen |
I think you're right... I get 304 blocks to do just under 90 x 106.

Are you using sashing and border to get to the finished size? Without it, I think your math is correct - Maybe some one else will have a better answer for you...lol.

As above...you would probably come out better to add sashing and borders...300+ blocks is a LOT of blocks!

Yes i think you are right when i rounded up to 17 blocks by 19 that is 340

You get there by dividing the finished width and finished length by your block size and then you multiply those two numbers together.
90/5=18 106/5=21 (rounded down) 18*21=378 Oh dear, I'd opt for borders too. |
Hi,
Each finished 6" block when sewn together will make a 5.5" block. You will need the following to make a quilt slightly larger than the size you require You need 17 blocks across and 20 blocks down. 17 squares across will = 93.5" 20 squares down will = 110" 17 x 20 = 340 Hope this helps. Hugs |

That's about right unless you want to add sashing in between the blocks and of course are you counting the borders if you are adding any. You could also add a large medallion in the center; of course you'd have to do the measurments to see what time but it would really stand out with the smaller blocks around it.
