I make taggie blankies. I take 2 pcs of 12'' or 14'' or 16''[even bigger ] of fleece and take the same sizes or different sizes of all kinds of washable ribbons and sew them around/in between the 2pcs. I either sew them inside out and turn or I just put the 2 together and sew on the outside. I love using all sorts of kiddie, baby, or any kinds of colors and widths. Also I use from 5 to 8 ribbons. Just not too big of loops as not to have a baby get a hand caught in. Little ones love the feel. Also can use flannel. I even make them into pillows. You can probably look them up on a site.I just bought a bunch more remnants to make more and to make fleece blankets for the babies in the NICU at the hosp. Don't need to be big for the preemies. I also use a wavy blade in my rotary cutter for the edges. Good luck!

I use it to back quilts, usually without batting, sewn with the 'pillowcase' or 'birthing' method. That is I pin the top and back face to face, sew around the edges. Then I turn it right side out and quilt it. It makes a really cuddly baby or lap quilt.

You can make rag quilts out of remnants of fleece, just sew 2 squares together, you don't need the extra center piece, it's heavy enough.
You can also make covers for your hangers with it - adult or children. They will keep your clothes from slipping off the hangers. You can also make "patchwork" scarves, "butting" the seams together and sewing with a zig zag or decorative stitch. You can also make a rug out of fleece by braiding pieces together. There are free patterns for fleece socks, hats, scarves on the internet, as well as the rug pattern. If you can't find something, and would like copies of patterns, just PM me. I can give you the sites but I also know some of the patterns I've downloaded over the years are no longer available and I would be happy to send you copies of what I have. |
What length and width of fabric do you use for the nursing home shawls? Do you finish all edges?

Piece them together and make blankets for foster kids or Linus Blankets

This is what I do with small pieces of fleece - I donate them to the pediatrics ward at my local hosp. My daguther drew out the pattern for me. They are very easy to make and the kids love them.
I also make fleece hats and scarves that I donate to the local charity that helps people in need. "hug buddies" |
Hi CoriAmD, your "Hug Buddies" are great!
What a generous person you are!!!!! How did you make the eyes on your buddies? Every time I look at them they get cuter!! |
Do you have a pattern for slipper socks? If so would you share it?
