HELP--I need pattern suggestions
I have been asked to make 2 queen size coverlets for my daughter's lake house. Both beds are in the same room, but she doesn't want them to match, but to compliment each other. Color isn't the issue, but I would like some advice on patterns that are NOT complicated, but yet they will compliment each other, Any help or suggestions are so welcome. Thanks for any suggestions.

How about two log cabin quilts using different settings?
How about 2 different star quilts? One could be the Big Star quilt from Jenny at Missouri Star QuiltCo. The other could maybe be the Labyrinth pattern that looks like a big star.
How about picking a pattern and do the two in reverse colours.
Eg. white with red ........ then red with white? |

Eg. white with red ........ then red with white? Love this idea !!!!!!!!!!! I also really like log cabins. I'm sure what ever your choice will be, indeead, will be be lovely. Just go for it. |
I agree with the stars idea. There are many, many easy star patterns.
How about Warm Wishes and a Split Rail Fence? They have a lot of similarities and are very easy.
I don't have a suggestion but just want to say, lucky daughter! I'm sure she'll cherish whatever you decide to do.
I thought of log cabins too. Easy to do and so many different settings will make them different but complimentary.
I would do scrappy quilts. Good use of stash and variety in colors will make it easy to put them in any room ... Hugs

My thought is to make 2 D9P tops - just alternating the layout of the blocks. Exact same starting pattern, same fabrics, just a different layout.

Rail fence was the 1st one that came to my mind.
There's so many ways to arrange the blocks. Red, white and blue... or beings it's a lake house, use fishin/hunting themed fabric. |
Thanks to all for the great suggestions, and the web sites to visit. Found several that I would be will ing to try. I have lots of ideas, and hopefully within the year, will be able to post some finished quilt tops. Thanks again, always so many wonderful angels on this board.

I like the idea of using 2 colors and reversing them, I think that would be adorable. Something simply like a disappearing 9 patch or the 10 minute blocks would be perfect.
How about a sunrise and sunset!
Eleanor Burns has a video on how to make two quilts at the same time. It's been awhile since I've watch the video but this might interest you. Here is the address: http://tinyurl.com/nm4gdy9

Turning Twenty is always pretty and easy - looks much harder than it is!
how about "Crossed Canoes" (had to ask Webster how to spell canoe! LOL)
I would go with disappearing nine patch and then change the colors around. There is also another one based on disappearing nine patch called Magic Twist. This would be easy to move the colors around.
Subway Tiles/Blocks in one and the other of longer strips depending on how elaborate you want to be sewing...
I really like this idea!

I would use whatever patterns you want but use the same fabrics in both quilts. The color scheme would be the same but they would be different. Are there any patterns that you have been wanting to try??????
I agree with Ditter, two log cabins in different patterns and/or colors would work well and not be terribly difficult to do
I have a lake house that water and electricity, but is still pretty primitive. Sometimes we are not there for several months and things get dusty. I would go with scrappy in mostly med to dark with just a pop of lights.

I'm thinking modern. I would try something to do with the lake and summer - sailboats, trees, cabins, bunting. Use 1 collection of fat quarters and a background fabric for both quilts.
Google images for sailboats quilts and you get all sorts of cute ideas. |
Just thought of these quilts as potentials .... MamaBear61 made them ....

Those are really neat, and fairly simple, with the strip pieceing. So many choices. And I loved the backs.
Then a surprise FUN backing ... would be a good conversation piece at a Lake House. Or some other fun fabric? |
