help with ideas please
 

My best friend is engaged. She lost her husband a few years ago and am so happy for her. Want to make her an easy quilt because cannot sew long due to injuries to neck and arm. Waiting for major neck surgery. I have 4 charm packs. a jelly roll of same fabric and abt 2 1/2 yrds of a blue that will go with it. The colors range from blue to tans to dark tan. Can you suggest an easy but cute pattern that I can start on?

What about an oversized log cabin? Put the 5" charms in the center & then build around it. It would make a nice lap quilt for them. Or if a lap quilt is too much, you could always just do 4 blocks & make a nice wall hanging -- maybe get the border embroidered with their name. For a lap quilt I would make the backing about 60" (1.66yd) and then use the rest of the blue for binding and maybe a border.

How about the Square in a square pattern? Use the carms as the centers, then alternate the jelly roll strips and strips from the yardage to 'frame' the center squares. No sashing needed.

I was going to suggest a disappearing 9 patch with squares size of charm pack.

I agree with Jeanne. I have done many square in a square quilts and they are fun and easy to make. Use the charms as your center. I did this one with fabric offsetting two side with a wider strip but I wanted you to see this pattern with various fabrics used. Good Luck!

What about a bow tie? You can use the charms and the blue for four patches and the jelly rolls cut into 2.5" squares to "snowball" the blue squares.

I'm voting for log cabin with charm square centers. You can do this design as quilt-as-you go.

How about Missouri Star QC pattern called Flower Garden Quilt with Sashing. I used 4 charm packs to make this quilt. It's easy snowball technique, and quick to make. I made this for my brother in law and his wife's cottage that is decorated with these colors.
