Help Identifying this block

I don't think we are allowed to post a picture from Pinterest so I will give the link. I wonder if it is in a book or a stand alone pattern? I have no problem purchasing the pattern but need to know the name. I followed the link through Pinterest but no luck finding the tutorial or pattern. I'm hoping someone here can decipher the block or lead me to where I can get instructions.

I clicked through to the origin, which was a flickr feed. I get the distinct impression that it's the creator's original block which she is playing around with and not a published pattern. You would probably make her day if you contacted her (via flickr) and let her know that you're interested in knowing more about it.

It's called Fun Patch and the pattern is from comequiltwithme.com
http://comequiltwithme.com/product/f...x-6-rectangle/

I don't have time to go thru them, but if you don't get the info from the photo, check the years listed to the right. It will show her blogs for that year. A tutorial was mentioned. It looks like it is called Fun Patch. Nice quilt. Looks like a variation of a half rectangle. http://2ndavenuestudio.blogspot.com/p/2012-quilts.html

It is called Fun Patch at Comequiltwithme.com
It is under one patch quilts--and it's all about color.

Grammahunt 07-28-2016 08:13 AM

Quiltknit.com has the template for $15.00. It appears this is an older pattern for her.

It's a fun block. I drew it in EQ as an 8" block.

ManiacQuilter2 07-28-2016 08:53 AM

It is not difficult to draw. You have to be perfect with lining up the tow pieces when sewing the seam. Just draw a 45 degree line thru a rectangle making sure both sides are the same exact size.

There used to be an acrylic template for the fun patch block---using it is by far the easiest way to cut the pieces. I don't know if the templates are still on the market or not. I have made one and it was a great scrappy pattern.

Very cute and easy pattern! Thanks for posting it.

Prism99 07-28-2016 05:15 PM

Here is a link to the template Jeanne mentioned:
http://www.quiltknit.com/Fun-Patch-T...Me_p_2469.html

Edit: Oops. Just noticed the template is out-of-stock and I'm not finding it elsewhere.

I'm trying to figure out the template's proportions. Looks to me as if the long side is 5", bottom side is 3-1/2" and the short side about 2".

I don't think a template or ruler is necessary for making the block. Just try playing around with the rulers you have on hand. I would probably do it with strips, sew at 45 degree angle-- which I would not even mark -- just use an easy-angler. then stitch an extra seam to make hst of the portion you'd cut off and you have some bonus blocks to play with.

$7.00 for the pattern. Now that is a good deal.

Thank you Onaemtnest for posting this request and thanks to Barb in LA for figuring it out!! I do believe I will make this for my GD (7yrs old) as she's been after me to maker her a quilt!!!

Lady Diana 07-29-2016 05:02 AM

It says on the link it is a 3 x 6 inch rectangle. The patten is on sale for $7.00

Yooper32 07-29-2016 05:52 AM

I have the paper template from Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion and I think it is the same angle.

btiny36 07-29-2016 06:03 AM

Why couldn't you just take a 3" wide strip of two different colors, sew them together at a 45% angle like as if you were going to make a binding, then just trim it up with even amount on each side to make the
6"length(or 6.5 for the seam allowance)

maviskw 07-29-2016 06:14 AM

Looks like OBW to me. (One Block Wonder) All the blocks are the same. The design is in the layout.

onaemtnest 07-29-2016 06:28 AM

Wow thank-you everyone for the input not to mention suggestions on how to try and work around not needing the template.

Barb in Louisiana as I've noted before in other threads you are so wonderfully generous in creating visual directions and again, I thank you from the bottom of this visual learners heart! <3 This to my eye when made with the high contrast black fabric is such a gorgeous block.

I sent emails to not only the blogger that posted the quilt and also the lady that created the pattern, asked both if the template was included with the pattern as of this morning no reply from either. In the mean time this board has been so helpful with all the suggestions I don't think I need to worry about the template.

Just a side note I understand that it is summer but within three full business days I would have anticipated a response from the 'business' "Come Quilt With Me" regarding her pattern. Communication with customers and potential customers I would think would be a priority. Just my humble opinion regarding online business practices.

ladyinpurple135 07-29-2016 06:52 AM

I think there is an acrylic template on the Quilt,In A Day site - it's called a chisel. Also, Accuquilt does have a die for it of you have the machine. Or just sew the miter as suggested and trim to length. I'm a template or die person for angles like this one.

A very long time ago a scrap pattern for this pattern was in a magazine. I made myself a plexiglass template to cut my scraps. It went together quick because you are using only one pattern piece. Have not seen the quilt in a while, wonder where I put it, it was used all the time.
You could make the pattern template any size you would like, mine was smaller than suggested. I used light scraps in place of the one background shown.

red-warrior 07-29-2016 07:25 AM

Thanks Barb for the PDF's!

JuanitaBean 07-29-2016 07:45 PM

Great easy pattern ! Going to have to try scrappy. Thank for posting.

Tiggersmom 07-29-2016 08:17 PM

This is a great block......so many design possibilities.
Thanks for starting this post, another one to share with friends.

I appreciate all the thanks. I drew the block as an 8" block because that is the way I saw the block. This is what a 64 inch square lap quilt without borders would look like with the 8" blocks. I have, also, included a 6" block cutting instructions. The short sides will finish at 1.5" and the long side will be 4.5"

Evie, pretty colors in your Fun Patch...it looks like a fun pattern.
