help with a little math please

I want to make this style table runner but I want to use just one piece of fabric instead of the 3 1/4 inch squares what size should I cut the center panel? according to my math it's 8 3/4 wide x 38 inches long did I figure that right? other then not making the squares I'm following the rest of instructions thanks heres the link http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/10/...and-table.html

I would just cut a panel of 9 1/2 by 36 1/2 and cut your inner border and then the main border to fit those measurements. But your measurements would work I believe.

Since the finished square will be 2.75", 3x12 squares will end up at 8.25" x 33", adding the seam allowance it will be 8.75" x 33.5". However, since you are not making the squares, you can make the runner any size you want. It is only the center panel with 2 borders. The scalloping makes the whole thing. So, just subtract the borders from the finished size you want (10.5" subtracted from both the width and length) and work it from there ( be sure to add the seam allowance to the center panel after you subtract). :) Ann
