I posted some pictures of Tulips in my yard earlier this week. I did not post it right so I am reposting. I read somwhere about how you can take a picture and change it to black and white and and then use it for applique. Anyone know of doing this or how it is done? Would like to do it with the pictures or one of the pictures of the tulips just not quite sure how.

hmmm, i know how to change a picture to black and white (using photoshop elements) but i'm not sure about the applique part. is it a digital picture or would it need to be scanned?

I can do it in Paint Shop Pro. PhotoShop can, and I think most graphics programs have that capability.

I looked in the pictures section and did not find your tulips. If you post a link, I can get you some sort of line drawing.

It is a digital picture, I have HP photo shop. I never really mess with pictures. But I would love to do the picture. My brother downloaded Corel on my computer but I opened it up and started to try to learn it and thought no wonder he did not want it. I closed it up and that was the end of that. But I hear Corel is good. I guess if you know how to use it, it is.
I will check my photo shop but I don't know if there are other things you are suppose to do. I wish I could remember where I read about it. Probably an online class I should have taken. :wink:

Here it is as a line drawing - you'll need to keep referring back to your original for colors

When you click on print, the print box comes up, click on preferences. At the top of the box click the color tab, then click on print in grey scale, I usually then choose black ink only. Then at the top click on printing short cuts. Scroll down until you see fast/economical printing and click on that. Then on the right look for print in grey scale and choose black ink only or high quality, again I usually choose black ink only. It is not as difficult as it seems, I use this method whenever I want to print something in black ink only and the fast/economical way uses much less ink, it works well with most any text and pictures that do not need to be "photo " quality.

The program I watched had you make several of these copies and then you would cut the flower into the individual pieces. The extra copies are for where the pieces over lap and to make sure that you can get them cut to the right size so that the pieces themselves overlap. It may take 3 or 4 copies just to get all of the tulips petals and leaves cut out the way you need them.

Sounds good. I always print in black in and know how to do that. I did not know that was the way it was done. But the extra copies make sense! How did you do the line drawing MoonPi?

I know it sounds like a pain, but using these features I cut waaay down on the amount of ink that I was going through..... and I get good enough pictures for projects :D
