HELP making breast cancer quilt need
 

Your opinions please.
i live in a condo, we are having a ig todo.i was asked to make a quilt for next year.
What should i do.
Should i do something simple like a 9patch or d9p. A four patch...keep n mind, no one is paying for this...
or do i do random blocks,almst like a sampler. Do i get one of those printed panels with words cut them up and make as a center of a block.
I know i can count on all of you to gie me greaf advice.
What would you like to bid on and win???

totally scrappy quilt...no two fabrics alike ; )

Since you will be footing the bill, can you make a lap quilt maybe "controlled scrappy". That way you can use your stash--translation, low cost. I know, you paid good money, but if you are like me it becomes almost free after it sits in you stash for awhile. Another thing you could do is watch for the sales and load up on fabric. As a breast cancer survivor I think it should be pink, of course :)

Ya know, if they ask you to do the quilt and pay for it, then they should be happy with what you choose. Don't worry about anyone who "can't stand scrappy" and might not like it; do what YOU want to do, with it! :)

Is this for a raffle quilt? I wouldn't make one for a silent auction; not worth the effort.

I would not necessarily make it pink or have a ribbon in it. I'd select colors I like to work with from my stash and find a relatively easy pattern to make. Anyone who doesn't like it would be welcome to make a better one the following year!

I am a survivor too and always stay away from pink/pink ribbons. We have had some discussions on the board about survivors who do and do not like the pink/pink ribbons.

I like the idea of pink, but I also like the color. Perhaps a brightly colored sampler type. Kind of controlled scrappy.

I agree, see if you can work from your stash. You could do a label with the ribbon. Not so obvious but still there.

You could also attach a removable pink ribbon, to the quilt.

I was talking to a couple friends who have been quilting for about 100 years between the two of them. They do lots of charity quilts for a variety of causes.

They told me that at a silent auction they are lucky to get $100.00 for a quilt, but if it is auctioned they generally make at least $500.00.

Me, I would never bid on a ribbon or pink quilt, I am not a pink person and in general do not like the ribbons that are used to promote just about everything. I do financially support a variety of organizations, but not ribbon campaigns. A scrappy quilt, or even a simple 9 patch or D9P would hold more appeal.

Hi Lynnie, I made a quilt to be raffled for local man with cancer. We made over $600.
I made a D9P with neutral fabrics so it would be fine for a man or a woman. I was so pleased with the outcome.

Remember men has breast cancer,too. When I had braest cancer there was a man from the same town with it.

I'd do a mix of pinks and white - same white fabric, variety of the pinks

For my first donation quilt for a breast cancer fundraiser, I made the "Quilt of Many Ribbons" - http://www.humblebeequiltworks.com/QofMR%20Final.pdf - It was auctioned off for $500...to a breast surgeon, who has it displayed in his office. This year's donation quilt is a Triple Irish Chain, with embroidered flowers in the center squares. I hope it does well. Good luck!

i do a breast cancer quilt every year for donation to a auction called bowl for the cure and always bowl in the tournament as well and i make it in all colors of pink with some breast cancer fabric in it 1st yr i made a nine patch, last year i made the cancer quilt with a panel from block party studios and not sure what im going to do this year but
they always bring in a good bit of money and since ive had several relatives in my family with all kinds of cancer it gives me a small feeling of fighting back. its not the pattern or even the color although i feel if its for breast cancer it should be in pink its that feeling of helping out or fighting back that helps most.
