Help making a chevron quilt...will this work??
Do you think I can sew 2 strips that are 5" wide together and then cut them at a 45 degree angle in sections of about 8" lengths and sew together on angles to create a chevron quilt? I don't want to do half square triangles. Please, any suggestions and help are greatly appreciated! (Making a king size chevron quilt for my daughter.) Thank you!! Karen :o

You can make a chevron quilt without HST's but instead of cutting at 45 degree
you'd cut straight...then trim the edges. A lot easier than sewing on the bias. Take a look at this tutorial. http://www.dreampatch.com.au/2013/11...gles-free.html |
You don't need to do that. You can make a chevron quilt entirely out of rectangles. Here are some links that show how:

I would try it with paper first. Angles can be tricky because of the fabric lost in the seam. There is a way to do it with strips. I'll see if I can find a pic. If you want to try it this way, let me know and I'll find the directions.

I just sewed two strips (3.5" width) together and cut the strip into 6.5" blocks. The blocks need to be square in order to do this simple chevron quilt.
