I made five outer shells totes this weekend and I used a purple marking pen that is supposedly suppose to dissappear and unfortunately on two of them the pen marks are still there, is there any magic potion I can use to get rid of these marks....it is discouraging but I have been on this board long enough to know that one of you will have this said magic potion...LOL

Did you iron on the pen marks?
Maybe oxyclean, or another bleach alternative :D:D:D

fabrichore 08-01-2011 10:06 AM

no idid not iron them, I don't think I want to put bleach on the totes, thanks for your suggestion, I will just google to see if there is any info...

Thanks again...

well I googled fabric disappearing marking pens, and some say too use water and a scrap fabric and blot or dab, others said use water but with a little detergent, I will try this tonight just thought I passed along just in case someone else had this problem...

fabrichore just wanted you to know our local quilt shop has a new marking pen that disappears when your put heat on it - i.e. even when the iron is just above the design. Might want to check it out - I just ordered one cause they ran out because of the local shop hop. Hope you find a fix and soooo sorry you are having trouble. Also thanks for the info cause I also have one of those purple pens.

what brand is it? was it supposed to disappear with air or water? what does the paperwork with it say? have you tried contacting the company who made the pen? I would.

I would try to contact the company. The companies who make items for quilters are usually very helpful. I had a purple pen with ink that disappeared over time, but it wasn't for me--the design disappeared before I was finished with the quilt. I think I'm pretty slow sometimes.

well I tried the dabbing of water and detergent and it came out, whew thank goodness, it did say on the package disappearing ink, so I assumed it would, I made five totes and the ink only remained on three of them, so I will look for alternatives in marking fabric, do not want to use that purple pen again...

Sometimes it can take 3-4 days to disappear.

Sometimes it depends on the fabric. Not sure about the purple disappearing ones, but I know the blue washout pens are not recommended for red fabrics. (Something about they become permanent on red.) Best idea is to test it on a scrap of each fabric before you use it on a project. Glad it came out!!
