Help with math..

I hate to sound stupid, but my mind gets befuddled when I try to figure these things.
My embroidered blocks are 9" finished...if I make a D9P block to go in between them, what size do I need to cut the small squares to end up with a finished 9" D9P block ?
Thank you..

If you cut the squares at 3 3/4 inches it will come out to a finished block of 9 1/4. Can you go with that or cut the center blocks in both directions at 3 1/2 inches with the four corner blocks at 3 3/4.

Let me rethink this, the four north south east and wet blocks would be cut at 3 1/2 X 3 3/4 and the very center at 3 1/2.

cjsews - I'm impressed. My brain hurts just reading the math!

Are you saying that you want your 9" finished embroidered blocks to be the corner blocks in a D9P? if so, just make them into a 9 patch block with 5 more 9.5" blocks, cut it up and sew back into a D9P.

My question is why a D9P? There are lots of block patterns that finish at 9 inches without complicated math.

Same here. I get my 13 yo DGS to do most of my math. (highest math avg. in his class this year) I keep answers, charts, etc. in a binder for easy referral.
