Help me design a pin cushion with this.....

Hi all -- I would like to create a pin cushion by recycling this plastic container originally used for gum. I'm thinking it would be cute as a tulip. I'm a newbie when it comes to quilting but I'm game to figure out something to do with these containers. They are too useful to just throw away. Please let me know what your ideas are. I'd like to make several for our guild meeting as giveaways in December.

Thanks for your ideas.

I, too, love containers. I've never seen this one. My sewing room contains stacks of the plastic containers that hold personal wipes. They stack well. I label them for easy access.

You are so right!! these just have ooodles of potential to become something useful/cute! my first thought is to maybe pad the lid so it can be a pin-cushion and that leaves room to stow thread and small items inside..looks like it might even hold a pair of the small trim scissors, a thimble, etc. great for travel/classes! it also looks like it could be turned into a "mushroom" if you can get the top really rounded to mimic that shape. without the lid, it def looks like a flower pot! i'm just positive you'll get some great ideas for it here!

Maybe you could spray paint the bottom part of the container to coordinate with whatever colors you use to make a pin coushion top. Looks like it might be a pain to attach fabric to the bottom half.

Glue guns are our friends! :D

I'm wondering if it would be tippy if it had a pin cushion on the top. They are cute containers, though.

yes, I think it would need to be weighted somehow.

I am not sure of the size but would it fit in the cup holder in a vehicle? I think I would see if the bottom fit the cup holder for a traveling sewing kit. Glue some kind of a pin cushion on top and store needles, thread, snips for road trip sewing.

I've never seen gum sold in one of these. How big/small is this thing?

It's about 3 1/2" high and 2 1/2" wide.

How about covering the bottom with Yo-Yo's and buttons. Fill it with sewing notions and put a foam/crushed walnut shells pin cushion on top in the with yellow petals to look like a sunflower? Yo-yo's could have a seasonal theme and make the pin cushion change based on the season/holiday?
