OK- many of you know I have an organization near and dear to my heart- The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We have a local walk scheduled for Sept. 14th. I want to make a queen size quilt to sell tickets for.

My skill level is probably intermediate according to the magazines. My quilting self confidence level can be "newbie" at times. So- what's a good pattern and what colors do you think it should be?

I have plenty of time if I start now. Not too involved that I would get frustrated but I don't want it to look like a beginner did it. I will get it quilted by a long arm quilter to look very professional.

Thanks for all your help!

Barb, I would get one of Eleanor Burns books that are real easy and pick a pattern from that. I would also use Blues and white for color. I know when we sold quilts in our shop (several yrs ago) the blue and white ones were the first to go. Esecially since you are going to make a queen size which most people would use in their bedrooms. Good Luck and how very nice of you to do this. Marge

You can go to

www.quilterscache.com

and pick out 12in blocks and do a sampler quilt. The ones with just one yellow dot are easy and by doing a sampler, you won't get bored making the same block over and over and think of all the new blocks you will learn!

Don't know about the colors, I would choose at least 3 :-o

Good luck1 I hope you make alot of money for your cause.

Oh Barb, good for you!!!!! Your quilt will be so awesome! I would go with blues maybe like others have said, but maybe like dark naby blues? that can be mixed with burgandys and neutrals? That way its not too girls, and can go with almost any colour scheme. What about a theme quilt? Something that offers hope? Like i always think stars look like heaven and look hopeful. Or something that might get the message across would be the lone star pattern, at star, that felt alone? Theres so many ideas like this that you can think of, and i think quilters cache is awesome too for ideas. Oh please tell us more as you're doing this, i'm very excited for you :) :) :)

PS or, depending on your message, broken hearts...a heart that is broken in half, or compass stars...mean lets keep our young ones on our radar and watch for signs.

Barb- exactly what I was looking for but couldn't put into words. I wanted something to symbolize suicide awareness but not be age/gender specific.

I love all your ideas. Now I can think with a focus. I like the idea of stars- I need to check out Quilters Cache and the Eleanor Burns site. Maybe I can find something I can do with the blues and burgundies and neutrals. I have fabric- Indigo Blues 2 from Connecting Threads, I bought it to make a quilt for "someday" and this can be the day.

Thanks for all your help! Made my day start so much better! Now, it's off to make the 18 dozen pierogies for the fund raiser on Tues. (We're doing the food on election day). Tomorrow night I will make the haluski and chili.

What ever pattern you choose, I'm sure it'll be pretty!
