Help me please...Janome 6600 Blanket stitch issues...
 

I started a machine applique baby quilt - and wanted to use the blanket stitch for the appliques.... I can't get the stitches to look right on the top, the underside looks great - not so much for the top. I have changed the needle - cleaned out the bobbin case, rethreaded the machine, tried a different bobbin, and none of this helped. I read the instruction book and also checked the Jamone site online. Still no ideas.. The top side of the blanket stitch looks like a bunch of "v's" - not those wonderful little straight stitches that I wanted to see. Do any of you have any suggestions - I am at a loss - and the time that I had to work on the quilt was spent trying to figure out what the heck is wrong... Oh darn it!!!! Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Which stitch are you using and what thread/needle combo are you using?

I'm at work so I can't look at my machine but get a scrap and try adjusting the stitch length and width, try different combos and when you get it right be sure to write it down because trust me you won't remember it!

I use a sticky note on the front of the machine if I have to shut it off before I'm done!

I am trying to use stitch #36 Mode 2 - and I am using the same thread in the bobbin as the top thread. It is a thread that I have used before to straight stitch with no problems. The underside of the stitches is perfect and the top is awful. I even tried with the AccuFeed foot. Still no luck.

What thread? What needle? The thread/needle combo can have a pretty dramatic effect on your results. I almost always use the open toe AccuFeed foot with the blanket stitch and I don't have problems.

I would say needle thread also. I find Mettler on the bottom and Sulky on the top works better than Gutterman on the bottom and Sulky on the top. Check your weights. I use a 70 or 75 needle. I think I use 37 or 38 with a 4.0 setting. Like somebody said once you get it right, make a note cause you do have to fuss a little. Also I find the slower I go, the worser it gets but too fast and I cant make the corners. I set my speed at half.
