Eureka! The problem was the thread was not flossed snugly between the tension discs. I quilted 8 placemats tonight with no problems. Thank you all for your help!!

This happened to me yesterday while sewing along fine... I was using the thread holder for cones when I noticed thread looked very taut and when I touched it it was ! Too tight !...and sure enough when I checked the back of the item I was sewing ...Big LOOPS !...The thread had been restricted by the cord from my lamp that was laying on top of it. I thought that I had put the cord out of the way but apparently not.

It happened to me today on my tiara. I didn't have it in the tension section. Flossed it and it worked. I find I have to check it after I wind a bobbin. I also have a problem with the bobbin making loops on the outside of the bobbin. Hard to describe. But I have to keep stopping and take the bobbin out then put it back in. Not sure if it's not wound right or what the problem is.

Are you sure your bobbin is in the correct position so the thread comes off of it in the right direction. I don't have a Baby Lock machine but do have multiple machines and the bobbin turns in different directions depending on the machine. My Viking bobbins have a little hole on one side and if I can see the hole when I fill the bobbin and when it is in the bobbin case I know it is going in the right direction. My Janome machine has a little drawing on the cover showing which way the bobbin needs to unwind in the bobbin area.

I have the HQ 16 and one time I didn't floss the top thread inthe tension disk well, got bird nesting nd lots of loops on bottom!

Flossing the top thread solved my problem- I had thought thread was between discs but obviously it wasn't.

Yes I checked that. It will work fine for awhile then it starts looping. It will do that for awhile then start working fine. Just not sure what the problem is.

I am suddenly having a problem on my Tiara with the stitches skipping. I wonder if it s the thread I am using>

Fabric could be wound too tightly on the frame. Lots of videos on YouTube for the Handiquilter. I think the Tiara is just like the Handiquilter Avante (and made by same company).
