Make sure you see the quilting museum. I think Eleanor Burns still has a store in Paducah. Also go down to the river and see the paintings on the flood wall. If you are into history go across the river to Metropolis Illinois and tour Fort Masaac. It is connected to Lewis and Clark.

pinkberrykay 01-26-2012 01:39 PM

What a great husband. You are lucky girl...HAVE FUN!!!

KLO 01-26-2012 02:11 PM

I think Caryl Byer-Fallert (or however you spell her name) has a shop/studio there also. I am sure if you ask around, the natives can point you in the right direction. Have fun!!!!!!

alfosa421 01-26-2012 02:32 PM

Maggiesmom 01-26-2012 02:42 PM

Don't forget Hancocks of Paducah.

Jackie Spencer 01-26-2012 03:02 PM

Oh My I cant remember a street name but you dont want to miss Eleanore Burns shop. I only remember its not too far from the Executive Inn. Have a wonderful time and a safe trip home!

paulswalia 01-26-2012 03:04 PM

First (I bet you've already done this) Kiss That Man!!!! What a sweetie! Next - I don't know.....never got the opportunity to go to Paducah!!!

sweetana3 01-26-2012 04:19 PM

Make sure you eat lunch at Kirchhoff's Bakery downtown. 118 Market House Square. We always have lunch during the quilt show and it is always wonderful.

The Museum is worth a visit. Great quilts and nice gift shop.

momto5 01-26-2012 04:29 PM

Make sure!!!! you go to Hancock's of Paducah...you'll cry at the sheer amount of fabric and every known notion they have there! They also have fair pricing and a good clearance section usually. Wish I was close enough to go...I am a charter member of AQS and never missed a show until we left Memphis...I STILL hate it!
So have fun, do some looking for those of us who wish but can't!

QandE2010 01-26-2012 04:40 PM

What a wonderful gift from your DH. See as much as you can for thetime that you have. Don't forget to stop and breathe, though and enjoy the sights. Have fun!

rexie 01-26-2012 04:49 PM

Quilt in A Day fabric shop is on 4th street and most all fabric is 5.00 a yard. Hobby Lobby is nice and Hancock's Fabrics is full of fabric but they are a bit pricey. If you like Chinese food, then you have to go to Chongs. There is one out by Kentucky Oaks Mall and one on Jackson Street.

moonwork42029 01-26-2012 05:56 PM

Be sure to:
see the flood wall murals on the river (katty corner from museum)
quilt museum
hancocks is pricey to me also --- local shops are friendlier too
chocolate factory on 2nd street (just down the street from the museum)
If you like peach wine there is the Purple Toad Winery just a few miles out of town...worth the trip
"Does" has terrific steaks but expect to drop about $75 - $100 for 2 people
"Patties" is in Grand River...about 30 minutes east of Paducah...check it out...wow is all I can say...

Be sure to pick up a Paducah Visitors Guide. It has many wonderful things in it: Quilt Museum, Lower Town Arts District, Wall to Wall murals, Carson Center, Clemens Fine Art Center, Paducah School of Art, PAPA Gallery, Yeiser Art Center, there are many workshops, trolly rides, guided tours, etc. ENJOY!

If you go to Metropolis ask about Super Man and have your picture taken with him

judylg 01-28-2012 05:11 AM

Make sure you go to Hancocks after you have eaten and allow plenty of time!! get a cart the minute you walk in the door.. I was there for easily 2 hours. The place has a nice lay out and has so much to look at it's best to go with a project, two or three in mind. good luck.

cherokeerose 01-28-2012 05:19 AM

I love Paduka, I go to Metropolis,Illinois alot - I enjoy going to the casino there. I always take one day and go to Paducah. I like wandering the streets down by the river. Now that I have been bitten by the quilting bug I will have new places to visit. Enjoy your trip, I will going in 2 weeks and I will be checking out the quilt shops this time.

Want to go to Hancocks for their selection of fabric

HoneysMom 01-28-2012 07:43 AM

Check out the hours of the shops you want to visit. I know Eleanor Burns is closed on Sunday and Hancocks may also be closed on Sunday. My husband took me this past September. It turns out it was the same weekend as the Bar-B-Que festival down by the river front. It was a beautiful day. I did some quilt shopping at Eleanor Burns (super nice people), we walked around the river front, had a nice bar-b-que lunch and shopped at Hancocks (large large large selection, but not the friendliest people. I told my husband, how can you not be friendly working with all of this wonderful fabric.) We had great time. Enjoy!

newBe 01-28-2012 07:43 AM

In the past Hancock's of Paducah was not open on Sundays; I don't know if they changed their hours of operation.

The quilt museum rotates their display, which makes each visit interesting; the best visit I had was when they had the annual quilt show.

Enjoy your visit and your DH!

jbj137 01-28-2012 08:12 AM

Enjoy it all. J J

If you enjoy a really good steak make sure you go yo Doe's - order the ribeye for 2 and it will seem so pricey! Make sure to visit Quilter's alley, downtown #rd street, Hancock's Fabric, Hobby Lobby, and Elanors Quilt in a Day! Oh, Jasimes's has great Thai food and sushi (behind the mall off Hinkleville road), DiFratelli's downtown for Italian, Mac's for good everything also downtown!Enjoy our lovely town!

Monkeynurse 01-28-2012 02:28 PM

Stop by the Briar Patch and see the Houston winning quilts... Saw her on the movie "Stitched" ... they are amazing!! Enjoy!!!~

maryb119 01-28-2012 02:37 PM

I was there a year ago. Don't miss the quilt museum!!!!! It is so worth the trip. Just take your time and enjoy it. Hancocks of Paducah is another "must see." I really enjoyed our visit there. We were on vacation and my DH suggested we go there on our way home! Sounds like we both have "keepers"!

butterflies5518 01-28-2012 07:01 PM

Super Happy Birthday! Enjoy your gift.

pc1camp 01-28-2012 08:26 PM

There was a restuarant right outside of Paducah going east where the servers dressed in victorian clothes and the food was great and the pies were awsome and lots of memento shopping and I do not remember the name. I'm sure most would know name. Was worth the trip.

danece 01-28-2012 09:22 PM

Grab the phone book, there are many different listings for things to see and places to go, don't forget your camera, you are a very lucky lady
