I had bought some fabric scraps -some appeared to have been prewashed, others not. I decided to rewash all of it since well who knows when or how it originally was washed. I was a bit worried about the reds , BUT they came through fine it was a piece of black that literally dissolved and left dye all over the other fabrics  The fabric was washed in cold water - normal cycle - any suggestions on trying to save the rest of the fabrics ?
Learn from my mistake , I think the fabric was older but at least if I lose this it won't be a finished quilt  |
Might try rewashing with dye catcher sheets, especially if you didn't put in dryer.

Yuck.
I've learned - the hard way - to only put colors I don't care if they bleed together Hope you can rescue the rest of them. Maybe if you rewash everything right away? |
Rewash with a color catcher. It should help.

Good luck. Agree w/ above advice.

Well rewashed and most of it came out- will do the rest for a third time after I wash my work clothes  I never would have believed fabric could just disolve like this
|
Dissolve as in poof, gone!, or dissolve as unrecognizable? I've never heard of such a thing happening. Bleeding, yes, but dissolving, no. Very odd. So sorry.

I have never been a pre-washer of fabric. After reading this I may have to change my ways. I'm so glad that you discovered this before it was in your quilt.
