My 10th grade teacher told me there is never a stupid question...so here it is...is there a certain way your squares should be laid out and cut like when you lay out a pattern for a garment? and also put in your quilt? I hope this makes since not sure how to word this.

If your squares are all the same size, you lay them out to appeal to your eye. Whatever looks good to you. Are you using a specific pattern?
|
Yes, cut them with the grain, avoid bias whenever possible.
Many cut strips across the width of fabric, then cut their pieces from that, squares, triangles, etc... :D:D:D |
Do you mean 'with the grain'? Clothing pattern pieces have an arrow printed on them and they tell you to lay the pieces out with the grain of the fabric.

I cut my strips across the width of fabric, then using this strip I cut each square which would make it the length of grain, just as in a clothing pattern. The only time I don't is if I am using up scraps or fussy cutting.
