I just screwed up royally... I was working on a quilt and was pressing some seams and my iron would not sit down all the way....Low and behold, I has somehow gotten a seam ripper stuck to the iron! I pulled it off and got as much of the plastic off of it as I could. Now....how can I get the rest of it off?
|
if it is not teflon use steel wool size 00 it will take some elbow greese but will come off
|
Heat it up and scrape with wood.

It is not teflon...it is stainless...thanks...may try the wood first and then the steel wool to get what's left.... thanks!!

oh no! Do you think maybe goo gone would do it? that sounds really bad. I'm so sorry :'(
I don't think the iron cleaning stuff in the tube would be strong enough to take off the plastic but maybe goo gone might be. That stuff is pretty good :) |
turn it to the hottest setting and maybe the rest will melt off.

Maybe do the counter-intuitive and put some ice on the unplugged iron or put it in the freezer briefly, in a bag if you want. The cold may make the metal shrink ever so little, releasing the ripper.
Please let us know what works. |
Good news!! I let the iron sit over night. I couldn't face it. Today after getting home from work, I went in the sewing room and decided to tackle it. I just started taking my nail and trying to get the rest of it off. It just started popping off. I kept at it and now it is clean!! I didn't ruin the iron. I was not looking forward to trying to find another iron. Thanks for your input. The ice may have worked if I had tried it yesterday.
