Help! My quilt is too thick for my Kenmore ...
 

I've quilted myself a little bit into a corner. Let me explain ... I'm working on machine top stitching a king size quilt. It is mounted on a table frame. I am using my Kenmore (5.5/6" throat). It is getting to thick for my harp/throat). What can I do??

Can you reroll it and start from the other side now? Meet in the middle?

I've considered that but I'm only about 1/4 to 1/3 in. Hmm ... I really want a long arm but I also want to complete this project!!! Sigh.

Can you borrow a machine from a friend? Are you sure you aren't almost to the middle? Your rolls look alike in size.

I can see that the roll on the outside is bigger than the one in the harp of the machine. I agree with Patti25314. Try and borrow a machine from a friend. Or, if you were planning on buying one, now is the time. It looks like you have a tad bit more room in the harp of your sewing machine, but just a tad. Really not enough if you are only 1/3 of the way into it. I'm proud of you for quilting your quilt on this long arm table with your sewing machine with such a small harp. Way to go!!! Maybe ask at the LQS if they could loan you one of their extra machines for a couple of days or if you can rent one of their sewing machines with a larger harp. I bet they might! That's if you can't find someone to loan you one.

get yourself a simple straight stitch machine like the brother PQ1500S it has a 9 inch harp and will work alot better for you, they run about 599 off amazon

scrunch the quilt....do not roll. You will beable to get more fabric in the throat.

You can approach your machine from the side. I machine quilt like that quite often. The hand wheel is away from you and the needle is towards you. You have both sides free and can scrunch the quilt up toward the machine.
