I think yours is much more stunning than mine! LOL Your fabric choices and color placement definitely makes everything pop where mine I think after seeing yours looks much too blended where nothing really pops. So beside seeing another stunning PP quilt which are my favorite, I learned something from you sharing. Thanks you! Hugs

I am thinking you are right, my husband just said the same thing last night about entering it next year instead of this. (I was telling him about all the comments and suggestions thru the board here) I want to improve my feather skills so am thinking that is the thing to do. I am so appreciative of all the wonderful comments, and ideas!! The Avatar picture that was mentioned is also a Karen Stone paperpiecing pattern. I have 2 friends that made the same one except in different colors and they are beautiful too. |
how about stars?

Another thought since you've decided to take your time and do beautiful quilting. Just a thought ~ maybe a bit of a frame to stop the eye at the edge ~ it would also provide a place for more beautiful quilting ~ and of course more work for you. That's why it's a 'thought' and not an 'encouragement.' LOL. I'm still breathless at all the work you've ALREADY done.
|
Your quilt is AWESOME!! I agree with the others who suggested feathers and SID.
|
It is perfect! Congratulations...........The only suggestion I could think of is quilting (outlining) the squares with a decorative feather stitch. Keep up the good work!

Wow! That is a show-stopper! I can understand your temporary brain-dead state - I would be, too. That is one of the most beautiful quilts I've seen in a long time. Get it quilted and get it entered in the show. Bet you'll win a prize!
|
I can't help with design, but your quilt is stunning. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless. Pemmy
|
Stunning quilt! Love your colors.
|
No ideas on quilting but it is a beautiful quilt.
|
I have another thought to add. Be cautious of the batting you choose. Make sure you know the quilting coverage it requires meets with the design you've chosen.
I just keep looking at the design and beauty of your quilt and continue to be wowed! |
Absolutely beautiful, gorgeous, fantastic quilt!!! I like a lot of the ideas on quilting. Just take your time & I'm sure you'll figure out a great way to quilt it. If it doesn't make it into this years show...that's ok. Great job!!!

I just keep looking at the design and beauty of your quilt and continue to be wowed! Which batting would you recommend? I use a lot of the 80/20 and just tried the 50/50 on a project warmth quilt. |
I think I would go with trapunto also, and maybe feathers and dense background filler to accentuate the points and feathers. IT is absolutely gorgeous. You must be very proud.
|
I also agree with the trapunto and feathers. Your quilt, your choice. Let it speak to you and with that kind of talent whatever you see in your mind will work beautifully.
Great Job!!!!!!!! |
This may be crazy but I have been thinking of how you could come up with the best design for your quilting because this quilt deserves to win. Why couldn't you copy parts of the quilt on a scanner and scan it in black and white and then copy that on to plain fabric and it would give you the design and the values and you could practice on this fabric until you come up with the best design for each area and then tackle the quilt. Just a crazy idea.
|
Very beutiful, I'm sure what ever you decide to do for the quiltingwill be great. I hope you win
|
WOW! Simply stunning!

Don't know if I have helped or confused, but you are going to do a great job! <wave> |
That is an amazing quilt. And I was going to ask what block/pattern that was, but someone else said Karen Stones McCommas Beauty, so now I know.
What is weird is that Quiltville just posted photos of antique "Whig's Defeat" quilts in her blog today, and McCommas Beauty seems to be a modern version of that block (which also blew me away). http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2010/...ed-lovely.html Trapunto may be overkill ... definitely "audition" it on a practice block or two, and also waiting to enter it for next year is probably wise - three weeks to quilt and bind may be rushing things (I know it would be for me, but I also work fulltime, so my quilting time is limited). better to take your time and create a blue-ribbon masterwork than to rush and miss by an inch. If you have graphics or quilting software, you can audition designs on your computer. Feathers might be just the thing, or maybe there's something else unexpected that you will think of. I can't wait to see the finished product, and please let us know where and when you're showing it. |
Your quilt is really beautiful. I would have no idea as how to quilt it. Your work is really nice,
|
 Gorgeous quilt top! This definitely deserves to be finished and entered in a show! You've had a lot of great suggestions for quilting. I can't wait to see it when you complete it!!
|
That is so stunning! The colors are spectactular.
|
Beautiful quilt and piecing. Have you started quilting it yet or made any decisions on your path? Sometimes I find that is the hardest part of the whole process.
I really want to learn to feather too.....now to just practice! |
Beautiful quilt.

That is why it is still unquilted I pull it out and the undecision comes again. I haven't done actual feather quilting yet on my long arm but have been practicing them and they are really starting to come together. |
Oh WoW!

I am thinking about your question. Brain is not functioning how. However, suggest you go to www.quiltingstencils.com and look at their catalog to see designs that might give you some inspiration. There might not be anything there other than the 4 patch centers that would be a useful design due to the irregular shapes but could get you thinking. Will you long arm or domestic machine quilt this?
|
Fabulous quilt, keep looking and looking at it too!! I would love to see it once quilted too.

Stunning!

A beautiful winner!
|
I really LOVE this quilt, it's simply beautiful, great work!!!
|
Your quilt is gorgeous can't wait to see it quilted .It will be a show stopper.
|
I think I would do continuous curve in the points with some type of background quilting (pebbling, peacock feathers ...) in the white background. Then do feathers or a special design just in the curved grey pieces. This is LOVELY! Where are you in SD? My DD es stationed at Ellsworth in Rapid City. (she is deployed at the moment tho)

Great idea, I will have to try it. One suggestion. I took a class with Carla Barrett. It was called Quilt Whisperer. She sometimes takes a picture of a quilt top and will 'doodle' on it to show how she would quilt it. She might take yours and use it for a class sample. Her designs are over the top! here is her website. http://featheredfibers.wordpress.com/ I think she just finished another Quilt Whispere class, but plans to repeat it. Last quilt I made I used a wool batt. It was like quilting in buttah! Just have to remember not to put it in the dryer tho. They can be machine washed (in cold if I remember right), but air dried. Thanks, Judy |
