checks, plaids and maybe stripes look great together. like men's shirts! just simple but great fabrics.

Not that you really need a pattern for this, but it was in the Spring 2016 Quilty magazine. The blocks are 6"X3" finished. The pattern is available here: Flannel Bricks Pattern bkay |

Boxed Squares in rich dark colors can be very manly. It works up fairly quickly. I hope you are machine quilting. :)

I agree with "wesing"-a brick pattern quilt made up of flannels would be really nice.
