I prefer not to wash, but lately have found it necessary to wash more often than not. I have had good luck putting a pinking blade in my rotary cutter and cutting a sliver off of the cut end.

I like the new washer and dryer idea.

Cut the corners off on the diagonal. It does seem to help and doesn't lose any fabric if you stay in the selvage.

I (gasp) wash all my fabrics before I use them. I just cut a corner off the end of each piece and I've had no troubles at all with raveling.
|
The pinking worked on one fabric but it didn't help on another. I will cut the corners on the diagonal and hope it works this time. If not I will just cut the tangles away. Thanks to everyone.

If I am pre-washing it--which I usually don't--I cut the corners in a diagonal so that it doesn't unravel

I don't prewash. If I end up having to wash any fabric like I bought it from a smoker or it was from a water damage sale I usually put it in a lingerie bag to wash it. A little fraying, but not bad.
