For my Middle Eastern "rug" quilt, I am creating an inner border of OBW hexagons. I've searched unsuccessfully for instructions on creating set-in "triangles" that will result in a rectangular strip, once pieced. Can anyone advise or point me in the right direction please? Thanks!

Dont know if this is "right", but I always just add another triangle to each side of the hex and then slice off the extra to create the straight edge after sewing, that way there are no inset seams. That make any sense?

you could add 1/2 hexagons again for the sides. I'm assuming you sewed the hex's in half rows. that is what i mean. half rows are easier than sewing the whole hex together. many photos on this forum of that. search here.

If you wanted to, you could sew all the ends together and then using your blind hem foot sew them onto a strip of fabric (like a hand applique look). If you wanted to then, you could even cut out the backing of the strip for less bulk.

sewcrafty's plan is probably the quickest but there are Y seam (inset) tutorials here, too. Try doing a search for Y seams first, then inset if you don't find what you're looking for.
Best Wishes. |

-- Jillaine I am totally curious what a Middle Eastern Rug Quilt would be like. Would you show us a picture of it as well, please? |
