I've never made a photo quilt - but have not heard this mentioned by anyone I know who has made one. It will be interesting to hear what others have to say.

you can purchase scotchguard in a spray can in the cleaners/starch section of walmart. i think also that i saw it in the home decor section of home depot the other day. i haven't heard of anyone needing it for printing fabric either... but it does make some sense.

i was very disappointed in one purchase of fabric sheets that I made. It didn't disclose this on the outside of the package. It said "complete instructions inside." The brand name was Jacquard. The outside of the box showed the product being used on children's clothing, aprons, and purses. I don't remember when or where I purchased it.

Inside it said
"The image will not withstand standard washing methods - it needs to be treated for water resistance. We recommend spraying it with Scotchgard or similar product. Use multiple applications of light coats as a heavy single application could move the ink. ... Rinse gently with cool water. Let dry and then press if necessary"
"Finished piece may be dry cleaned, however due to the variety of printer inks in the market place, we recommend testing a sample first. Pieces that have been treated with Scotchgard or similar products may be gently hand washed in cool water."

I have only used the Printer Treasures brand and didn't have to do that.

I used Bubble Jet Set and treated my own fabric.

Thanks for all the replies, I will look at walmart's for the scotch guard. When I used fabric sheets before it never said they had to be treated with the scotch guard and never had a problem, but this was Jacguard, so I guess I better follow the directions.
