Help piecing a double wedding ring
 

I bought this Fons & Porter Batik double wedding kit and today (like i always do) took a break from the quilt i am working on and grapped the kit to try one section or arc...i pieced and unpieced like ten times and i tried the pinning method and Ebony Love's method that she has a video on youtube and then i tried the curve master foot.....after all that what do i get???????????????

So my question if the notches of the melon shape met the seams on the arc then why did it pucker????
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Arcs look great. The bagginess in the melon pieces suggests that there's too much fabric there. Perhaps the ends weren't properly marked. The sewing should stop 1/4" from the edge, measured not from the point, but from the side. I assume you've tried pressing.

This week marks the first time I've worked with batiks. That fabric doesn't behave the same as anyother I've worked with!! After the fact and with me commenting on this to a friend at our quilt shop... I was told wash that fabric then spray starch it before cutting. Next time I use batiks that's what I'm gonna do.

I'm wondering if perhaps your seams are just an ooch over 1/4" or if the pattern was expecting a very scant 1/4". Probably if you make your seams just that tiny bit more narrow you will not have the puckering.

I love the fabrics.

I would pin the arcs to the melon pieces starting in the middle and work my way out. That way if the pieces are too big the excess will be on the outside and you can adjust where you sew your seam.

I agree with mom-6 ~ the scant 1/4 inch seam is important.

they really do look good. when quilted and washed , I don't think it will you will notice it. lovely so far!

Thank you ladies for the wonderful suggestions. The pieces were precut in the kit (thanks God) but i think i need to read the instructions again and see if it mentions the scant 1/4" because i was sewing very slowly to make sure my 1/4 seam was perfect. If you see in the pic how the points met at the end it would show how careful i was and when i was sewing the notches met with the melon and the arc so i feel that the melon is bit longer than it should. I am guessign when they where cut, they didn't follow the grain of the fabric.
So i will try the scant 1/4 and i will try to sew the melon starting from the middle and walk my way out and see how those work.
