Help please to find a posting on colour value
 
It consisted of sorting triangles into lights and darks with the rest being medium. Then the mediums were sorted into light and dark. Then the lightest lights were paired with the medium lights and the medium darks were paired with the darks.
Maybe you will have more luck than I did.

I don't remember that at all. I just use my Ruby Beholder and sort using it. If it works for you, that is what counts. Thanks for sharing.

Took me a few days to locate this. Sorry, it's not a link, but a pattern in: "The Creative Pattern Book" by Judy Martin. On page 100 she shows a quilt "Horn of Plenty", which is basically a Thousand Pyramids quilt, with subtle value shifts from light to dark. Her triangle sorting process sounds very similar to what you describe. You can get a used copy for less than $1 + postage:
