Help Please. I need your ideas
 

I'd like to make a quilt for a good friend for her king size bed. I've attached a picture of the curtains in her bedroom. They are the Waverly Moonlit Medallion Panels. She loves these curtains. The walls of her room are the green that is in the curtains. She loves this color. But, color isn't my problem.

My problem is, given the curvy lines of this quilt, what type of pattern, or pattern should I use to marry with these curtains? I never imagined these curtains for her. She is into shabby sheik and country.

I found a pattern that I really liked for her in FaveQuilts.com called Garden District Picnic quilt. She loves to garden and has beautiful gardens. I thought perhaps I could cut the curtain (it is 100% cotton) and use the curvy medallions as the large stripe in this pattern. It would be 2 inches bigger than what is called for, but the quilt will be for a king size bed so maybe it would work.

I'm just so lost with this one. So, I thought, bring it to the ladies and gentlemen on the QB for help :)

Ok, now I'm on a mission. I've never really paid attention to the curvy rulers. And, I found the word I wanted - Chic! Shabby Chic. I knew it wasn't sheik! LOL Lord you retire for 2 months and your brain goes to mush!!

I think the Quatrefoil pattern would work well because you could focus on the fabrics, it is not curvy but it reads like a flower. PLUS it gives great space for quilting. Jenny Doan has a tutorial.

Maybe one of quilt patterns that seem to curve but it is an illusion like the Tennessee Waltz pattern. There are many of those.

I have one thing to say about the curtains, UGLY. Good luck with making a coordinated quilt.

I like your idea of using the curvy "stripes" as a design element. I would use them vertically to create whatever width you want (I'm thinking fairly wide) for sections between them. In my vision of this there would probably be either four or six of the vertical "columns". Good luck with making her a lovely quilt for her bed.

I'm confused. Are you buying more of the Waverly fabric to make a matching quilt?

Donnamarie, we all like different things, colors, patterns, etc. Just because something is not to my taste doesn't mean it is "ugly." How is your comment helpful to the discussion?

I like the fabric in the curtains. Are you required to use the curtains or is that just an example of her taste? One of the beautiful things about quilts is the blending of patterns and textures. I would not do curvy piecing. I would pick a pattern and incorporate the colors. If you use the blues, greens, and golds it would be calming, quiet quilt. Using the red spices things up. I could see a quilt with soft blues, small geometric green patterns, a little of the gold looking wonderful with those curtains. Sometimes when picking fabrics for a quilt I use a focus fabric and after the fabrics are all picked I don't actually use the focus fabric in the quilt. I suggest you use the curtains as a focus but not copy them.

Just a bit of advice. I used to watch a deco program on HGTV. The host said when looking for colors for paint or bedspread, paint the walls the color found the least in the bedspread; or make a quilt using the wall color as the least amount of color in the quilt. Over the years, I have found that I am attracted to rooms which follow this advice.
