Help, please! Joining triangles into a strip.
 

I'm trying to join the triangles on the Jane Stickle quilt into straight lines for the borders. IS THERE ANY EASY TIPS? I have templates and a foam piece to pin them too, but very labor intensive. Maybe cutting the corners like for piecing other triangles would help? Paper piecing? (the row is one triangle up/one triangle down). Thanks for any help!

Paper piecing might just be the way to go with this one. Although it, too, can be labor intensive, it might just be the easy answer in the long run.

Yes, either that or hand applique each triangle onto a strip of the background. Both labor intensive but, hey, I'm happily into my 2nd year with this quilt!

I think for me I would use some kind of stabilizer on the triangles or starch them. With so many diagonals if this is not done distortion would set up if I was doing it.

I'm still trying to decide on what color wave I want to do!! Only have about 1/2 of the instructions for each block printed out. Hope I can get started in the next year.

Are you talking about the pieced triangles or the solid ones? If the pieced, I would measure all, find most common size and conform all to that as discreetly as possible....if the solid fillers, make a template of the now all the same size pieced ones or measure them and away you go......I haven't gotten that far with dear jane and find some of her blocks are a definite challenge........think she did some piecing in the dark!

Hi Geri B. Thanks. The pieced and the "plain" triangles are the same size. After trial and error I found that I was forgetting to trim the corners off before lining up! So no more problems - except for this:

I suggest starching the daylights out of the white fabric.... it will help a lot in keeping those bias edges in check. Use the concentrate ... full strength.. and let it air dry , then press and cut.
