i don't quite understand what you are doing...you've stitched the fusable to your appliques? generally fusable applique a paper backed fusable is used to trace your applique pieces onto- then you cut them out- press the fusable side to the back of your fabric- cut out your shapes- peel off the paper- then fuse to your background fabric...then stitch it all down
i buy my 'sewer's aid' from 'clotilde's, nancy's notions, connecting threads, keepsake quilting' on line or from my local quilt shop- it helps keep the lint down when using cotton thread & makes hand stitching easier- generally fusable applique is machine stitched down either with a small zigzag or a blanket stitch- needle turn applique (with no fusable added) is stitched by hand.

I agree, use alcohol to wipe your needle when sticky. I had to do that when I made vests out of that material that has glued on sequins all over it.

I think she is doing Eleanor Burns' type applique where you sew the applique to a fusible interfacing first, then cut a slit and turn so the applique is faced with the interfacing. She has ironed the appliques to the background fabric and is getting ready to sew around them. That's my understanding, anyway.....
