Help Please
My sonis Getting married and he loves Zombies I found one site with a lot of greatfabrics with Zombies
They are expensive that’s ok i can go to my LQS and beef up the fabric but myquestion is as he won’t be the only one in the Marriage What would be a goodpattern for Hiding the zombie fabrics I Like the Double Wedding Ring patternbut everything I have read I don’t have the skills for it as of yet I onlystarted Quilting the beginning of 2012 and I don’t want to try something likethat and ruin such expensive fabrics can anyone help me with a pattern I havenot bought the fabrics till I know the pattern I’m going to be using I would like a pattern for King size If any one can give me a name of a good pattern so I can buy It and get started I would be very greatful. thank you. |
My first question is: Does your future DIL also like zombies?
I would think you'd have to make the zombie print be pretty small so the wife can accept having zombies on her bed. LOL. How about a log cabin? Lots of prints can be combined in lights and darks and look great and the zombies can still be seen but not stand out.
What about doing his and her lap quilts. You can use the same pattern for each one but vary the fabrics.
I'm thinking you could use any block you wanted and just use the zombies for a sashing, but keep it on the narrow side.
Bonnie Hunter from www.quiltville.com says there are no ugly fabrics, you just haven't cut them small enough. If you are buying expensive zombie fabric though, I am not sure I would want to cut it into ittty bitty pieces.
A king-size zombie quilt might be a bit much. Perhaps doing the his and her lap quilts with fabric themes each one likes is a good way to go -- warm wishes pattern would be fun and quick. Or, if you really want/need to focus on the king size quilt now, perhaps do it in another theme and hold the zombie fabric for lap quilts later. If you want to use the zombies in the big quilt, log cabin with a lot of other prints might be the way to go.
You could make a bed quilt that they would both enjoy then make a lap quilt with zombies
for your son later. |

Oh dear, if you haven't checked with the future DIL this could be the start of a very poor relationship. On the other hand, she apparently likes your son, and he likes zombies, so maybe it's transitive. I wouldn't count on it though. Lap quilts sounds like a great way to go.
Why don't you do a quilt in the colors of the zombie fabric and then do pillowcases in zombies. The zombie fad will pass and you don't want the putting the quilt away because they no longer care about the zombies.
just because he loves zombies doesn't mean you have to make a wedding present of them unless the new DIL also loves them. I like zombies too but even I don't think I would do zombies for a wedding present.
make them a Beautiful quilt. They must have other interests, maybe nascar.:D save the zombie stuff for a birthday. Another way to look at is loving a foot ball team. I still wouldn't want a WEDDING QUILT with a logo on it. people can like whatever they want. I love french fries but I don't want a quilt or even a mug with a potato on it. but that's just me! peace and may the wedding be wonderful and the couple make a happy life together. |
Do you mind me asking??? where did you find Zombie Fabric? My son his Gf like the zombie thing too, and his home looks great alot of gray, black, red, and lime green.
I really would find out if she likes zombies first!!!!
Yes my DIL thinks the Zombie obsession is "cute" they are even getting my son a Zombie Grooms cake he does not know because he is a Marine and away from home so can’t help with the planning BUT She is also very Girly and Sweet and I do want it to Outlast the Zombie phase "BellaBoo" I love the Light Dark Log Cabin Idea Thankyou all for your Help. Im hopeing with the smaller peices it will distract form the Zombie thing unless looking for it and that would be kind of fun for them and the fabric is not nightmare ugly just not "pretty" some of it is really kind of cute
I will make another after they are married With her inputto guide my choices LOL Again thank you everyone Have a great day |

that is the reason i want to hide it in the quilt it will go with the wedding however since they are haveing a grooms cake they are young and are having fun with it so i will too and I can always make another quilt which was the plan anyway to make a pretty quilt also but there is only time for one so why not one they will love even if just for the moment afer all life is just a lot of little moments and we should find a way to love them all :)
I would maybe do a dp9patch with zombies as the center block
I like the idea of the log cabin. You could fussy cut a zombie for the center block and do a border in the zombie fabrics.
Oh my, I just looked at that fabric and its an average of $18 a yard! If it was me, I would only pick 2 of the fabrics and find some nice fabric to off set the cost and the design of the zombies.

If you are planning a double wedding ring the very best advice I could give you is to go to
http:P//lindafranz.com/section/inklingo/62' You will find more info and more help than you can believe. When you look and think it looks comlicated, look again. It is NOT complicated and you'll meet the nicest folks you ever met. I am a very slow typer so it would take all night for me to tell you about it when Linda has the info all there---even free samples for you to try. I have NO connection with Linda Franz except enthusiam for every dealing I've ever had with her over a period of years |
Beware, I have read that the spoonflower fabrics are not always colorfast and can fade much more then the usual fabric because everything they have is pretty much custom made to order. So they don't go through the same screen printing processes major manufacturers do. You may wish to consider this for such a momentous occasion quilt as the wedding quilt.
I went back through some old posts about this company http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...r-t138582.html |
I also love the log cabin idea better. Please post pics when done!
I'd go with the lap quilts. Their tastes can Change as the get older.
