Help Please
 

I am trying to print a picture onto a piece of fabric for my quilt. The problem I am having is I can't seem to get my material to go thru the printer without coming off the backing. The quilt store told me its cheaper to use waxed freezer paper and works just as good. NO it does not. It won't stick good to the fabric. Any other suggestions I can try that might work better?

What kind of fabric is it, and what kind of printer? Are you using a warm iron (not hot)?

Freezer paper, not waxed paper, generally works pretty well. I found better, as I do most things to make slightly oversized to start and then trim with nice crisp edges.

It would help to know the model of printer. Most printers have a "cardboard" or other sort of heavy stock/envelope pass through, usually involving manually feeding the sheets and opening a back door that might otherwise be hard to see.

I am using cotton. Iron on cotton setting. I have an HP office jet Pro 8710.

I use freezer paper and if I can the spray tacky stuff.

Have you used Terial Magic? It's applied to the fabric to make it really stiff, and then the fabric may be put through the printer.

I'm assuming it's an inkjet, not a laserjet? We have a laserjet and you can't print on fabric with it. :(

I also think you should try Terial Magic.

Freezer paper and Wax paper are two Very Different products. I use freezer paper often. I cut my freezer paper and fabric a little larger than regular printer paper, iron them together very well, making sure there are no wrinkles or air bubbles. Once they are pressed together we’ll I cut them to printer paper size- then I use paper tape to secure the edges all the way around. I’ve been printing on fabrics for 20 years this way.
make sure you have good quality Permenent ink in your printer. ( regular cartridges are water soluble- will wash away.
