I am hand quilting an applique quilt (my first one). I cross-hatched all the main blocks. I was going to cross-hatch the setting triangles and do one line of stitching in the sashing between the blue and pink batiks. I have a 4 petal dogwood stencil that I was going to center on the border. The border is 6" and the stencil flower is 3" x 3" (I guess I should have taken a picture of the stencil, too.)

But now I am not sure at all what I should do. Will the cross-hatching work in the setting triangles? Should I do something different with the sashing? I single line of stitching looks pretty plain. Should I continue the cross-hatching through the sashing? I think the stencil is okay for the border but maybe someone has a better suggestion. Thanks for all you help!

I think the cross hatch will look good in the white triangles and it will make the sashing between pop since they only have the single line (which sounds perfect to me) maybe x's in the inner boarder to kind of copy the cross hatch but simpler. No matter how you do decide to quilt it, It is going to be lovely! you've already done such a great job.

Your quilt is beautiful. The cross hatching makes the flowers stand out well. I know that hand quilting curves is more difficult, but a half circle design, maybe a flower or feather in the setting triangles might really set the quilt off. The dogwood border sounds great.

Cross hatching will work in the triangles, but you might also consider using a stencil there, or quilting one of the applique designs there, and then doing some cross hatching around it.

Think about stitching in the ditch for the sashing. For the pieced border, you have seams to deal with and it doesn't look wide, so maybe stick with the single line. Or continue with the cross hatching. If it's wide enough, how about a simple cable ?

I'm sure other people will have other ideas. I hope you post a picture when it's done.

Your quilt is beautiful. I agree with Janet. I think a motif of some sort would look great in the setting triangles with cross hatching in the background. For the border a cable would look great or maybe a continuous vine and leaf motif to carry on your floral theme. There are some beautiful stencils offered by the stencil company and I think the cable and flower border would be so pretty! It comes in several widths.

I agree with Janet and Feline. STID in both of the sashing rows not just the center. Motif in the triangle setting blocks with or without crosshatch behind it. That will set the sashing off from the main blocks and not try to "tie" them in. Lovely quilt!!

Ooh, I love the applique. Beautiful work and the fabrics you chose are great. I agree with the others - those setting triangles are too good to waste with plain cross-hatching. You could put some really cute motifs there.
