I need your quilting wisdom. I want to make this raw edge quilt from a layer cake for myself and I would love to put minky on the back. http://bloomandblossom.blogspot.com/...-tutorial.html
To do that, could I just cut 10" squares of minky? Or should I use flannel as the backing fabric and then once it is finished sew minky on the back? Then the flannel would be in the middle and serve as batting. Does that even make sense?

Im not positive, but I dont think the minky will rag. I've heard you would need a cotton, or flannel or even denim. Im sure someone with more knowledge than me will post more info.

I agree, the minky won't rag. You could use two squares of cotton fabric and then add the minky after the quilt is made.
Minky, cotton and flannel will make a VERY warm quilt, that is why I suggested two layers of cotton  :D:D:D

No I don't think minky will work for this project either

Minky is a polyester fabric like polar fleece. Also, if you've ever cut Minky, you know that it "sheds" when you cut it. I used it to back a baby quilt, and the stuff was all over the place just trying to square up the two ends and cut off the selvages. I swore that if I ever used it again, I'd do all the cutting outside. So if you do decide to cut it into blocks, be ready for a mess.
